Plant Overview
The Jabuticaba Plant (popularly known in Kerala as Maramunthiri or the Brazilian Grape Tree) is an extraordinary and fascinating exotic fruit tree famous for its unique cauliflorous bearing habit—meaning the fruits grow directly on the main trunk and older branches rather than on stems. This traditional Nadan variety produces clusters of round, thick-skinned berries that mature from vibrant green to a glossy, deep purplish-black color. Inside, the translucent white pulp is remarkably juicy, sweet, and aromatic, mimicking the texture of a premium grape with a delightful tropical twist. Dressed in elegant, dense green foliage that turns a beautiful reddish shade when young, its slow, naturally shrubby growth makes it a premier selection for large pots, terraces, and home garden beds.
Growing Requirements
● Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade (requires at least 5–6 hours of direct daily sunlight for uniform fruit development)
● Watering: High; requires consistent soil moisture and regular watering, especially during dry summer months
● Soil: Prefers deep, rich, moist, and acidic soil conditions; benefits from generous additions of peat moss or leaf mold
● Fertilizing: Feed with balanced organic manure, vermicompost, or an acidifying fertilizer every 4 weeks during prime growing phases
● Placement: Perfect for sunny terraces, patio containers, backyards, and landscape focal points
Bring home a traditional Jabuticaba Nadan seedling and enjoy watching its unique trunk-borne purple grapes mature, adding an elite, high-value exotic curiosity to your fruit tree collection.
